Take two!

Lost all of what I had written before!

Sitting at BK with several others charging batteries and drinking coffee.

Staying at the campground until Tuesday when Paul is driving down to give me a ride north.

Will put new tires on and continue the ride for missions.

After patching, adding, everything I could think of, this set of tires has finally gone kaput.

No good anymore.

Three flats yesterday.

Little tiny wires from blown tires on the shoulder.

They are my enemy.

Eight days after I leave Raymond I should be riding into the driveway at "home."

And probably good for me to rest.

Feel like I have stretched or abused muscle on my left side.

Met a gal last night as I was checking in at the site and she had walked from

Maine to Lincoln City!

How great is that!

Told her about Jonathan's and my plans to hike the PCT.

Encouraged me to do so.

Life changing she said.

Just how I feel about this ride for missions.

A number of people gathering for the eclipse.

Opportunities to share of God's creation during this time.

Keep praying for people.

For rescues physically.

Spiritually.

Emotionally.

We serve The God who changes lives from the inside out and the outside in.

Met Austin from Michigan.

And a new start at life.

Interesting coming over the Coos Bay Bridge today.

Yesterday, 14th stopped in Gold Beach at a bookstore/coffee shop.

Wish I would have had more time to look around!

Today I had a late breakfast at TJ's Cafe in Port Orford.

Then up the road not too far in Langlois I spied a sign that read "Bike Friendly."

That caught my interest!

A coffee shop.

Flora's Creek Coffee.

Billy served me up a double shot chai latte.

And we sat on the stools and talked for a good half hour.

Cool guy!

Tonight I am in the hiker/biker site at Bullard Beach State Park.

Wind and hills all day.

Good initiation for the days ahead!

Saw five bicyclists going south.

One passed me going north.

Said he wanted to get far enough north to see the eclipse.

He is going up the PCH and then across the northern tier to New York.

Guess there are other people besides me who do trips like this in reverse.

Ham and cheese sandwich (x2), Hansens Apricot drink and an orange for dinner.

To Bandon tomorrow.

Bullard's Beach.

Will be a short ride.

Next day will be longer.

To Umpqua Lighthouse.

Will stop on the way tomorrow morning for breakfast.

Bible, journal, beach

Decided to spend another day here at Harris Beach.

Put the new tires on the front.

Higher pressure tires so should roll down the road better.

Gears and brakes adjusted.

Think I'll take my Bible and journal down to the beach with me.

Looks like a comfortable place for some quiet time.

Remember, hate never wins.

First day like that in a while!

Met a couple guys who rode the morthern tier from NY to Seattle and now heading down the PCH to San Diego.

Threw the sleeping bag off me at nine.

Then went down and paid my fee for another night.

Five dollars.

And all this gorgeous God created beauty surrounding me.

Patrick's Point State Park

Met Dan while I was having breakfast.

We just started talking.

He is a teacher from back east.

And a motorcycle enthusiast.

Used to have three.

Now he is down to one.

Really incredible hearing all his stories.

And what a good one he is.

Just as I was exiting the highway to the campground my left tire blew.

Knew it was going to happen sometime.

The tire is totally destroyed after three hundred miles.

Called Schwalbe and they said to go through their warranty department.

Keeping the tire till I get back "home" and do all the paperwork.

Settled into the camp site, did a short live feed of some of the trail and ocean view, and called it a night.

And then I met Greg.

He pulled up in front of me while I was riding along the highway.

Basically jumped out if his car and got very excited.

Did not know why until he told me he had a recumbent as well.

Said he had not seen another recumbent on the road in quite a long time.

If I had come through earlier in the day he would have ridden with me for a ways.

You know what that caused.

Talking.

Riding over to his home.

And talking more.

Comparing bikes.

Greg giving me snacks and info about the road ahead.

Spent at least an hour and a half there.

He hopes when he retires in a few years to do a ride cross country.

Would be fun to join him on that adventure!

Chain Stretch

Which is going to be wonderful for going up the hills.

A beautiful couple.

They shared their evening meal with me.

So wonderful to be meeting all these uniquely God-created individuals on this trip.

Leggett

Not much to say about this day's ride.

Made it all the way to Leggett.

Leggett is like a right of passage for riding the PCH.

Three, four mile sections, of climbing.

Up.

Then down.

Repeat.

And repeat again.

Tired.

Rolled into the campground as the sun was going down.

Head north on 101 tomorrow.

Now.

Now it is time for sleep.

Has lost eighty pounds since February.

Had a health scare.

Started biking.

Showed me his gym membership picture.

The doctor told Scott he had to join.

Would not even believe it is the same person!

I saw so many bicyclists today.

All headed south.

Camping at Van Damme State Park.

Site #17.

The hiker/biker area is completely full.

Fifteen people in that space.

So, for the same fee, ten dollars, I have my own site.

Bathroom and showers are just a little walk away.

This morning before I left, had a good long yarn with some motorbikers.

Finally got away about 9.20

Scott and I both agree that one of the best parts of touring on a bicycle is meeting people.

You never know who you will cross paths with.

Two Fish Eatery

Jenner to Gualala.

Met a gal named Deb at The Two Fish Eatery.

She told me of a couple places to stay and even who to ask for.

The Two Fish is a general small town kind of store.

Salt water taffee, coffee, sandwiches, some camping supplies...

Put the two new tires on the front of the bike.

The others were quite worn.

Not only could you see the blue but in some places the underlayer of the threads.

The husband, of the couple who run the place where I stayed, was an avid flyer some years back.

He was relating some stories to me of when he first learned to fly.

None of the instruments.

All by sight, landmarks, and intuition.

Washed out some of my clothes.

Had a whole bag of granola with some almond milk for the evening meal.

Then after that some fruit.

Then some microwave popcorn.

A good wholesome meal wouldn't you agree?

At lunch I ate a turkey sandwich.

Not a lot to say about today.

Extra challenge

August 3, 2017

Zeke and Nay.

Anniversary was yesterday.

Three years married.

They worked up an old van with solar on top and are traveling around the country for a year.

Maybe more?

They were both very open and genuine.

I pulled off the highway to use the public facilities.

Came out and a local motorcycle club were pulling in.

A group that like to travel around together.

They were saying what a cool set up on the bike.

Which led to talking, discussing.

Wish I would have gotten a picture of them all.

Seem like a lot of fun to be with.

And while we were talking...

Tom joins in.

An avid recumbent rider.

His is two wheel.

Says he'll go to three when he reaches eighty.

He has a ways to go since he os pnly one year older than me!

And he is a pastor.

Tom, his son, and a friend had just arrived back from a three day kayak

excursion.

Tom was in a recumbent kayak.

All done with pedalling as if on a bike.

He is going to send me some info on the kayaks.

Maybe the next adventure?

Saw lots of bikers heading south.

I forgot to mention my extra challenge this morning.

That is what I am going to call it anyway.

An extra 3.4 miles because I took the wrong road.

Up and over a hill.

Then turned around and did the same back to the correct road.

For completing said challenge I treated myself to a chai latte and a blueberry muffin.

Stopped in Bodega Bay for some fuel for the body.

Fish and chips.

The fish was caught this morning!

And a turkey sandwich to go which I will have tomorrow.

Need to figure the distance from

Olema to Jenner.

Forty-five maybe.

If you add the challenge into the equation.

So as I am coming into Jenner I see what I think is a campground.

It is really like a mobile home park.

An older one.

I ask a couple as I am shouting from

across the road if there are any tent sites available.

The man walks me down, introduces me to the husband/wife team who own the place.

Tell them what I am doing, the whys, wheres and hows and then just like that she walks me down to a tent site.

No charge!

And it is beautiful.

Like I am in the midst of a flower garden.

The showers were hot.

And it is what I needed after four days of none.

Yeah, I think I smelt a bit bad.

Shaved.

Ate a few chips and now snug in the tent.

So much to be thankful for.

Tomorrow I keep heading north.

One day, one revolution of the crank, and all to help others be free physically, mentally and spiritually.
