Came over the Arizona/California state line at 5.30 this morning.
Very pleasant ride.
Stuck at I-8 and Quechan Road.
Construction on the freeway.
Westbound lanes closed.
No frontage road.
Found a dirt road I can take but don't really want to get caught trespassing.
And the sand is to deep.
Looking around the casino for someone with a pickup.
Two miles to my exit at Sidewinder Road and then I can take the frontage road for a ways.
Two miles.
O the joys of travel by bike!
------------------
Just talked to a man who has lived in this area for forty years.
Gave me some advice for getting around this road situation.
Gonna be interesting.
Hoping the border patrol does not stop me!

----------------------
Am stopped at a place called Gordon's Well.
Thomas let me in the gate and I am sitting in the shade.
The frontage road has a sign that says no bicycles.
And those cement barriers across.
Can't ride on the freeway.
So, which do they want us bicyclists to do?
Thomas said it is ok to ride on the frontage road.
Just go around the barriers.
Looks like they are repaving.
Sure would be nice if it was the whole twenty miles when I turn off onto highway 115.
So will wait till it cools off a bit more and go.
May be a bit of night riding tonight!
Gonna take a shower and get some of the hot and sticky off.
Loving how God is putting people in my path!
You know, when you least expect it, expect a God moment!

Need to let you all know I did ride down the blocked road.
Better to be on the side road than on the freeway.
And I know now why they had the road blocked.
The first seven miles were wonderfully paved.
The next thirteen were not.
Lots of quick maneuvering to avoid potholes, ruts, breaks in the roads.
Will say something here about the recumbent.
It held up great!
Only two things happened.
The phone holder and the right hand mirror broke.
According to the signs on the freeway, bikes are not allowed after exit 151.
When I got off of that exit, I pulled over into the gated driveway entrance to one of those fancy desert homes.
Pulled out the sandwich I had bought back at the fuel station where I had filled all the water containers.
Enjoyed sitting underneath the shade of the palm tree!
When I got ready to leave can you guess what I saw?
A flat back tire!
Off comes all the bags, the tire and setting the back of the frame on one of the bags.
Changed out the tube, put all back together, and started to ride.
And that is when I stopped at Gordons Well.
By the way, through all the miles of traveling through these parts, you are not allowed to pitch a tent.
The reason why.
Scorpions, snakes, and other unique creatures God has created.
If you know me and my travels, I still did once.
No problem.
I think the stench of my bodily aroma scared them all away!
When I was preparing to leave Gordon's Well after my rest and shower can you guess what happened?
Another flat tire!
Ugghh!
Got on the road late after changing the tube.
Made it to the intersection at Hwy 115 after dark.
Turned on the phone to see how far to the next town.
Four miles.
Lights on and pedal just a bit further.
And cooler this night.
-------------------
Holtville, CA.
Twenty dollar motel room.
Great talk with Michal.
Now to shower.
And sleep.
May Christ be your rest.
