Night Ride?

June 21, 2017

Did not want to get up this morning.

Yet I knew the best time for riding is early before the heat strikes.

Thirty miles to Panaca.

Filled all my water bottles with ice and water.

Met Blaise.

He was riding his bike around town.

Asked what I was doing.

He works a number of different jobs.

Tried to eat a sandwich.

Felt like everything was coming right back up.

Finally, at 4.45 I am eating and I feel a bit better.

Never assume or think your plans are iron clad.

Been waiting for eight hours for the temperature to go down enough so I can ride.

The wind, combined with the temperatures, was stiffling.

So I guess tonight will be my first night ride.

Twelve miles of uphill!

And along the way I met Shad.

He is from Demas, NM.

Pedaling up to Boise where his Dad lives.

Leaving the bike, bags and orher items for next years ride of Washington and Oregon.

So after standing on the side of the road talking, we finally realized we both needed to get riding.

So I worked on getting those twelve miles out of the way.

And I did.

I had originally thought I would ride through the cool of the night.

Well, around mile post seventeen, I came to the conclusion I was being a bit foolish.

So I found a spot off the side of the road and pitched the tent.

Instead of pedalling, I watched the stars.

It was the better decision by far!

There were cows talking away.

The smells were just like the farm.

Sixty-five miles to Cedar City, Utah.
