Rumble!

June 17 2017

Some hard fought miles today.

Highway 93 is a beautiful route to ride.

Scenery is wonderful.

Lots of climbing hills to reach the summit of 6280 feet.

As I crested the summit there is a bridge and a sign "Do not park underneath bridge."

As you pass inder that bridge, your eyes take in a beautiful view.

Snow peaked mountains to the right.

And miles of road ahead.

Of course what goes up must come down!

The road itself is well paved and mostly smooth.

Can not say the same for the shoulder.

The rumble strip takes up half the width.

And the width itself would be ok for a two wheel upright bike.

Or Art's fat bike.

For a recumbent it is not near ideal.

Which is why I had to take my share of the actual road.

Which leads me to a big thank you to truckers on this stretch of highway.

They, at least the 99 percent, would go wide around me, I would wave, and all is good.

Today's distance?

Seventy miles.

Interspersed in those miles were little valleys, small farms, scenic views.

There were a couple scary situations.

Two times, where I had to swerve onto the gravel.

And when I did have to ride on the shoulder, the tires took a beating.

Respect for the truckers!
